My First Brownie Adventure

On Saturday, 30th September, 2006, I met my friends from 1st Mitcheldean Brownies and lots of other Brownie packs from around the Forest of Dean at a place called Holly Barn near Symonds Yat. We waited for everyone to arrive and signed ourselves in. Then we found our table and left all our bags on it before splitting into groups to start the activities.

I was in Sue’s group. We started off by making necklaces with coloured feathers and eight beads. I really liked my necklace. When we finished the necklaces, we started making dream-catchers with multicoloured wool. This was a real challenge. Half way through mine, the wool became frazzled and started to break. I started again but the same thing happened. Nevertheless, I enjoyed having a go.

One of my favourite parts was ‘tracking’. We had to find and follow different symbols and shapes which we identified on a sheet of paper. I had never done anything like this before and would like to do it again. We had lots of fun in our group.

As a whole team, we made parts of a totem pole. I helped to make the bird that was to go on the top. It had a pink wavy front. Its wings were red and its beak was made from a McDonald’s cup. An egg box was cut up to make the birds head. This was a really good recycling project.

I enjoyed the whole day, more especially the hot chocolate, sitting in the tepee eating chocolate brownies, making signs with flags, singing altogether but most of all I enjoyed being with my friends for a whole day.

The only bad part to the day was the wet weather. We managed to stay dry and did not let it ruin our fun.

I cannot wait to go again next year.
